I'm entering my 50th year and that means that I am somewhat an expert on New Year's Resolutions. According to my count, I must have made more than 37 New Year's Resolutions...and if I'm going to be honest, most of them have failed.

Now the business consultant in me is obligated to tell you that GOALS are just DREAMS with deadlines. We should all write down our goals and share them with friends and family so they can help keep us accountable. For example, my goal is to lose 27 pounds by my birthday. Now, everyone reading this can ask me "how my weight loss journey is going" and keep me going to the gym.

As I mentioned above, most of my resolutions have failed. So how can I make this year different from all the others? The answer is two words BE BETTER. Each day, my goal is to BE BETTER than yesterday. I want to wake up each morning and ask myself, how can I improve. Can I be a better husband and father? Can I do more for our community? How's that weight loss journey going? If our goal is just to BE BETTER than yesterday, and if we do that each day in 2024, than how can we not succeed in making 2024 the best year ever?

Now the cynic might say "well people have bad days". That's ok. Have your bad day, and wake up the next day with a positive attitude and tell yourself, "today will BE BETTER". To quote the famous philosopher, Orphan Annie,

"When I'm stuck with a day that's gray and lonely

I just stick out my chin, and grin, and say

The sun'll come out tomorrow"

(Did you sing? Just checking).

Here's to 2024. I'm looking forward with hope and optimism. I would like to wish everyone good health, love, and happiness.
